Since I believe we were created, and not children of rocks, my outlook on history has changed. I believe at creation mankind had full use of the mind. Currently scientists estimate we use 8-10% of our capability.
I believe our ancestors had a higher IQ than we do. We suppose since they didn't have the machines we have that they weren't as intelligent, but how many of us even know how these things work? We think our accumulation of knowledge is the same as intelligence.
Watch the Discovery channel and read between the lines. For instance, I was watching a series on civilizations and a recurring comment on the Mayans, Incas, Aztec, Egypt, Chinese, and others was "they sprang up almost overnight" or "they came out of nowhere". Usually it was about 4,000 years ago. Another common comment is "we don't know how they did it" and "even now we couldn't duplicate their accomplishment". I believe that after the flood and the tower of Babel the different language groups dispersed across the world. A side comment is most civilizations have a flood story.
I believe we are digressing not progressing. The prevalence of diseases we see could be the result of the gene pool going downhill. Adam's sons could marry their sisters because their DNA was almost pure, now even if we marry perfect strangers we can have all sorts of birth defects.
