The Leviathan

How many of us think the federal government is too big? How many of us worry that if the federal government gets any bigger it will devour us, trample our dreams and aspirations underfoot? The federal government is an unwieldy beast. But too many people want to put a bit in the beasts mouth and guide it, they only have a problem with who controls the beast. As long as the other folks don't have the reins the beast can live, if we have the reins the beast is ok. That is a dangerous lie and is leading to our destruction. We need a St George that will kill the dragon, we need someone who knows the danger we are in and will act. The constitution was a cage to confine the beast, but long ago both parties let it out and fed it every opportunity it benefited themselves, all the while imagining it was still caged, and their pet. The enemy of freedom is Statism, and both parties have statists in their midst. The Democrats are honest about it and embrace the beast. The Republicans claim to despise the beast but feed it under the table. No matter who is in power the beast grows, and nothing gets better. As Reagan said "government isn't the solution it is the problem". I have heard some of our candidates propose one government program after another and we applaud, and the beast laughs and gets ready to devour more.

In 2010 people overwhelmingly elected folks they thought would starve the beast, folks that they hoped would begin to put the beast back in the cage. If the Republican Party doesn't embrace the ideas of limited government, if they don't become the party of St George, they will become irrelevant.

Republicans need to embrace nullification, state empowerment will reduce the power of the beast. Republicans should become the champions of states' rights. To rely on federal employees in black robes to limit their federal cronies is wishful thinking at best. The states and the people are the final arbitrators of the constitution.

Somebody needs to embrace real tax reform, corporations get their mitts into the beast to enrich their profits. Let's get them out, they rightly try to turn the beast to minimize the damage to themselves. Let's neuter the beast so the corporations will get out of politics and do what they should do, provide something of value, and if they don't, they fail, regardless of how big they are.

The oligarchy needs to be disbanded, our senators and representatives only look out for themselves. We need to limit the damage they can do to us. There is no reason to have career politicians, it's a major reason we are where we are. They know they get their power from the beast so they have no interest in curbing its appetite.

If we don't commit to starving the beast, if we think we can tame the beast, we deceive ourselves, the beast will die like all its siblings before it, we can be the architects of its demise or we can prolong our own suffering and the suffering of our childern. The sooner the beast gets stuffed back in its cage the sooner we can be prosperous once again.
